Band Saw Blades

Band saw blades:
Several factors need to taken into consideration when purchasing a band saw blade. The first thing is the length check your band saw for the correct length. The other factors include width, type, gauge type of teeth, and TPI ( teeth per inch).
Basically band saw blades come in standard Carbon steel and Carbide tipped. The carbide tipped blades are generally reserved for the larger commercially operated band saws as they can be several hundred dollars more than a comparable sized Carbon steel blade. The gauge is simply the thickness of the blade they generally run from .025 for smaller band saws to .035 on the larger band saws. The widths available are generally from 1/16 of an inch to over 1 inch on large machines. If you are looking to do fine scroll type work the smaller widths are best the larger widths are used for straight cutting if you plan on doing re-saw work use the largest width your band saw will take is the best option. TPI or teeth per inch will determine the cutting ability of your band saw, as a rule of thumb the more teeth per inch the smoother the cut while less teeth per inch will allow for a faster cut.
