When tiring to decide on which size band saw is the best for you, you have to look at the two main dimensions 14 inch, 17 inch or 18 inch which is the width that can be cut. It’s the distance between the blade and the vertical frame. The other dimension you need to consider is the saw depth the opening between the table and the upper guide. These two dimensions will determine the size of stock that can be passed through the saw. There are also two types of saws, one you can mount on a bench which is nice for the home owner with a wood shop in the basement or garage to save space. Or a larger free standing which comes with a metal stand or a cabinet that mounts the saw to the floor.

When selecting a band saw blade the first thing you need to know is the exact length of the blade and the exact width of the blade and the number of teeth per inch or the tooth pitch. To get the exact length first put the saw in working position then measure between the upper and lower wheel hubs center. Then get the radius of the upper and lower wheels, then use this formula: (R1 x 3.1416) + (R2 x 3.146) + (2 x C) = length.
The blade width is measured from back of the blade to the tips of the teeth. If you are going to use it as a cut off saw then you want it as wide as the manufacture allows the wider the blade the straighter the cut. Countors sawing you want a blade narrow enough to get the shape or radius you are looking for.

Band saw safety is a must although band saws are very safe when used properly; they can be very dangers if not well maintained. Blade can break, pieces of wood can fly up at you the number one rule is always were your safety glasses. When setting up and adjusting always follow the manufactures instructions for your safety and ours
